Prostate Cancer Diary – My Papaya Recipe

February 7th, 2012

How I Used The Fresh Papaya (PawPaw):

The fruit was to be consumed 'As is' because we always have a small plate of fruit everyday around 5 pm.

I planned on adding a teaspoon of seeds into my Yogurt at lunchtime.

The 'Coleslaw' I would add to any Salad (even in a sandwich) as it's summertime in Oz and we are eating a lot of Salads. Don't know what I am going to do in the Winter though? If you have any ideas please add them as a comment so everyone can benefit.

I had also planned on five serves per day because I thought it would be better to 'Drip Feed' it into me, as my wife thinks I am a 'Drip' sometimes anyway - so that should fit.

Now all this leads me to that subtle problem of dosage. Just how much is enough?

I guess my body (as I have become my own Lab-Rat) will tell me if I am getting too much. But it can't tell me if I am getting too little.

So there is a problem. My solution is to increase dosage until my body kicks back. I feel like a Mad Scientist!

Saturday 4th Feb:

I started in earnest with one heaped teaspoon of seeds sprinkled over my breakfast cereal as this was quite palatable and I didn't notice them among the All Bran and Sultanas I usually have. I also mixed about half of the total peal 'coleslaw'  into half a Litre of pure Australian Orange Juice and drank a small glass (100mls) of that. My only concern was should I be Crunching up the Seeds (a slight peppery taste) or swallowing them whole?

At lunch I had 2 sandwiches with salad, cheese etc with the coleslaw mix. Nice. I also drank about 200mls of pure Pomegranate Juice (strange taste) and a small bowl of yughurt with again one heaped teaspoon of seeds - swallowed whole.

Tea time I had the fresh fruit and black tea drink.

Dinner was a Ham Salad with the coleslaw mix and about 9pm I has a Midura Black Tea and Papaya drink - my last drink before bedtime. Thankfully at this time in my prostate journey I am not waking to much through the night to pee. Maybe once.

This was a typical day, so my new experiment fitted in well with my old lifestyle quite nicely - thank you.

The only side effects (if you can call it that) was a slight headache - not even worth taking an aspirin for, and a (sorry to be blunt) but a mildly mushy Poo. I did feel a little sickish going to bed and it kept me awake for about an hour with hot flushes.

I don't know if it was the effects of the new diet or not. How am I going to know?

I also woke about 7:30 am with a slight erection (very welcome) as I haven't been able to do that over the past few months. While this was probably wishful thinking as I can't attribute it to the Papaya diet just yet - but I'm hoping... REALLY HOPING  :-)

I will report again to this Prostate Cancer Diary as changes are made or side effects are noted. If this has been of any help to anyone or if you have any comments (keep it clean) please don't hesitate to add them below.

Monday 6th Feb 2012: My Prostate Cancer Diary.

So here is the problem. I have dismissed Surgery completly and that leads me to Radio Therapy as the only available conventional medical alternative.

My Oncologist want me to have Hormone Treatment to:

  • a: Slow the Growth of the Cancer cells by (basically) chemically castrating me. Ouch!
  • b: Shrink the Prostate down to a smaller target for his magic Death Ray.

I didn’t want to do that with Hormone treatment, but can appreciate why he wants to do that.

So I’m looking into all types of Natural and Alternative medications.

The best I have come up with is PawPaw (Papaya) as there have been quite a few studies with very promising reasults, PLUS it has been… Continue reading Prostate Cancer Diary - My Natural Alternative

Prostate Treatments and Me.

Long time coming since my last post – but I have been kinda busy…. Tests – tests and more tests :-(

So this is the latest:

My Urologist sent me to the Radio Oncologist because I decided I do NOT want surgery. Apparently I can’t have Brachyatherapy (my original choice) because my Gleason Score is 8 – too high, so External Beam Therapy is the only option, even though they only found cancer cells in ONE of the TEN Biopsies they took.

HOWEVER: (I am discovering LOTS of ‘Howevers’), the Oncologist wants me to have Hormone Treatment first to bring my enlarged prostate down in size.

An ‘Average’ prostate is about 40mm – about the size of a small Plum -… Continue reading My Personal Prostate Cancer Treatment Options

And it came to pass….

A week or so has gone by since I wrote the first post on my ‘Personal Prostate Journey’ and was pleasantly surprised by the comments and messages sent to me.

So thank you all – I appreciate it.

But the one thing that caught me off guard was the WAY it has effected others in my family.

The general consensus was ‘ouch’ or ‘shit’ or some other expletives too bad to mention here – but you get the idea. However it was strange from my point of view to sort of accept it as a ‘fait accompli’ when others reacted differently.

One member of my immediate family came rushing to see me, while another has not mentioned it to me at… Continue reading Who Are The Innocent Victims of Prostrate Cancer?
